How Canva Helps Every Creator Own Their Corner of the Web
About the Company
Canva's mission has always been bigger than templates. It's "empowering the world to design,", helping anyone communicate their ideas visually whether or not they've ever opened a design tool before. With hundreds of millions of users, Canva is unlocking design at global scale. Design is only half the promise, though. Canva designs can be published anywhere, including as a website, meaning creators now have a way to easily create a website that’s unmistakably theirs.
The Challenge
For Canva, great design doesn't stop at creation, but extends to a seamless and integrated publishing experience.A website living on a personalised address feels as authentic to the creator as the content it hosts. When Canva Websites first launched in 2022, publishing was possible, but required users to move off product to connect to an existing domain, creating complexity.
The team wanted to make the experience feel simple and seamless, while still meeting the needs of Canva’s enterprise customers. From the start, the team came with enterprise-scale expectations: teams needing to connect up to ten subdomains at once (i.e. marketing.yourapp.com, support.yourapp.com) without repeating a manual flow ten times over; a product team that wanted session and event data flowing into Canva's own systems rather than sitting in a vendor dashboard; a design team that cared as much about user trust as aesthetics, wanting enough white-labeling to feel native while keeping enough visible Entri branding that end users understood exactly who they were handing DNS credentials to.
The Solution
Entri worked directly with Canva's product, design, and engineering teams on an implementation built for that scale, not a generic one: partial white-labeling configured around a bespoke options document built specifically for Canva; webhook- and API-based data export so Canva's own systems stay the source of truth; multi-subdomain support so an enterprise customer authenticates once and connects every domain it needs in a single pass; a "check domain" pre-validation API so Canva can decide upfront whether a domain qualifies for the automated flow or needs a different path; and Okta SSO/SCIM for Canva's own team.
The Results
Updates to Canva Websites are live in production today, with real end-user domain connections completing daily. What stands out most, though, is what's missing: since go-live, Canva's support footprint with Entri has been light, helping users avoid the common friction and technical questions that can come with DNS setup. Entri removes the complexity, keeps the user in Canva, and eliminates the added friction so that connecting a domain in Canva is as easy as creating a beautiful website.
The Impact
For a platform built on the idea that anyone should be able to make something that looks and feels genuinely theirs, Canva's Entri Connect deployment quietly extends that promise one layer deeper, down to the address a Canva-built site lives at. It's also proof that Entri holds up at the far end of enterprise complexity: multi-subdomain accounts, agency-style workflows, and the identity-management requirements that come with serving a company at Canva's scale.
